Geez it has been some time since I had the chance to feature a Hairlight of the Day. Since I had a few medical school exams this morning, my hair has not been as funky as usual. Luckily, this next Hairlight of the Day has a youtube channel that has inspired my hair styles during this exam period. Ms. Helecia who goes by the name I Know Lee took the time to tell me about some of her natural hair secrets. If you haven't viewed her page on facebook or youtube channel, it is a MUST.. She discusses style.. from clothing, make up, and most importantly HAIR!! Check out below what this H-town Hottie has to say about natural hair and some of her experiences!!
Introduce yourself
My real name is Helecia Williams. I had so many issues in school of people pronouncing my name wrong so I always had nick names. The most common was Lee Lee. Thats where the youtube name I Know Lee came from. I thought it was catchy.....Do you know Lee?
Location
Houston ( H-Town), Texas
Why did you choose to go natural
My sister encouraged me to try something different mainly because she was going natural. I loved changing my hair so I took the risk and just went for it.
If you had to describe your hair in one word, what would it be?
THICK.....It is beyond thick. I knew it was thick before I went natural but it was straight. Once I had a full head of curly hair, it hit me that I have a head full of hair.
When and how did you transition to natural hair?
I wanted to transition but I didn't have the patience. I wore weave for about two months just to let my perm grow out. Once I took the weave out, I decided to just do a big chop. I ended up with about a half of an inch of hair.
What is your hair regimen?
I wash my hair once a week with shampoo bars. I deep condition at least twice a month. Every time that I wash, I condition and apply a leave in conditioner. Then I add a butter and usually do a twist out. Rarely do I ever do braid outs or bantu knot outs.
What is your favorite natural hair style?
My favorite natural hair style is just to wear my hair out. I love my fro and my hair free flowing.
If you were trapped on an island and could only take 3 products, what would they be?
I would take my Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner, Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars, and my Carol’s Daughter Loc Butter. I can not continue for a long period of time with my hair not being clean so I would always need a cleanser. I also need excessive moisture so the conditioner would allow me to easily detangle and provide moisture. The Honey Hemp Conditioner can also be used as a leave in. Loc Butter would give me the hold and amazing curl pattern.
Is there a blog or webpage where someone can find you?
You can find me on my youtube page
I also have a Facebook Fan Page
Words of Hairdom
Natural hair is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get! Go for it! If you want to go natural just try it and if you don’t like, go back to a relaxer. Be patient and give it some time to adjust.
Until next time love yourself, love your hair, and be loved!
Peace & Hair
